Climate shocks, economic instability, and growing humanitarian needs are deeply intertwined with rising violence. Conflict both drives and is driven by this cycle, undermining sustainable development and threatening progress – especially for communities in fragile contexts and organisations supporting them.
But humanitarian, development and climate programmes can successfully tackle these challenges at their roots if they proactively work towards peace. Our new practice notes show how peacebuilding tools and approaches enhance impact, strengthen resilience, and deliver lasting change across development finance, climate action, and humanitarian aid.

Unlike some of his peers facing unemployment and insecurity in Mali, Mamadou proved he didn’t have to seek purpose through violence. With support from our project, he opened a poultry farm that now employs three people and strengthens the local economy.
In Lebanon, we have trained and continue supporting over 100 local women mediators. True pillars of strength for their communities, they are using their conflict resolution and mediation skills to resolve local tensions and meet the most urgent needs of people affected by the recent war.
In Rwanda, we are supporting community healing and reconciliation after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. This work has already helped thousands to deal with their trauma, seek and give forgiveness, and work together for a better future through small business projects.
